This course will provide participants a rare opportunity to pose risk management questions to the expert panel regarding home and commercial inspections. Topics will include inspection scope and limitations, criteria for inspections and record keeping, safety, report writing and risk management. This class is applicable to anyone desiring to learn about inspections, standard of care and best practices regarding risk management from national experts in their fields.


Michael Casey, ACI, MCI


Michael Casey, ACI, MCI, is the principal of Michael Casey & Associates, a national A.M.-Best recommended consulting firm based in San Diego, and Director of Education with Home Inspection University. Mike is Past-President of the California Real Estate Inspection Association (CREIA) (1994/1995) and of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) (2002). Mike is multi-code certified by the ICC and IAPMO. He is a licensed general, plumbing and mechanical contractor in several states and a Virginia Licensed Home Inspector. Besides co-authoring several books in the Code Check series and Code History Master, Michael has authored numerous other technical books, has taught home and building inspection nationwide, and has had an expert witness and claims consulting practice throughout North America since 1987. Mike has inspected more than 10,000 buildings in his over +32-years career in the inspection profession, as well as serving as a consultant or expert regarding more than 800 inspector claims for both claimants and defendants.


Bob Pearson


Bob Pearson started his first inspection business in 1985 and, since 1992, has been the manager of the Allen Insurance Group's program, along with maintaining a home inspection business. He retired as an active inspector in 2000. He has written many articles on claims management and report writing, and has been a risk management speaker at many conferences. He is considered to be the foremost expert on home inspector insurance.


David Madariaga, Esq.


David Madariaga, Esq. is a partner and the litigation manager for Fowler Law Group. Mr. Madariaga has defended home inspectors in claims, arbitrations and litigation for the last 15 years. Mr. Madariaga is a member of the Defense Research Institute and the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel. Mr. Madariaga has spoken on the topics of risk management, report writing and contract terms at the CREIA, ASHI and Casey and Associates seminars. Mr. Madariaga has published articles in Verdict, the ASHI Reporter, Inspector Journal and NAHI Forum magazines.
