This course discusses the history of air conditioning, WHY it works, and how to inspect a cooling system and heat pump system. The student will learn about how heat is transferred between, inside and outside a dwelling. The student will understand what's required to properly inspect an air conditioner or heat pump and when not to test the a/c or heat pump. Advanced inspection techniques will also be discussed.

Don Norman has been inspecting buildings since 1985 and has inspected more than 10,000 buildings during his career. He has co-authored numerous books. He is a nationally recognized speaker and trainer in the home inspection industry, and was the President of the American Society of Home Inspectors in 2005.  Don was the National Managing Instructor for Kaplan Professional Schools/Inspection Training Associates.

In 1998, as ASHI Education Committee chair, he assisted in the creation of the National Home Inspector Exam (NHIE) and was a charter board director on the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors (EBPHI). The NHIE is the only national high stakes, psychometrically valid, legally defensible home inspection competency exam in North American and is used by 29 states for licensing home inspectors. Don was re-elected to the EBPHI in 2014 and is currently serving as President of the EBPHI.
