In this session you’ll learn why stucco homes leak. We’ll cover code requirements, the common installation defects that lead to water entry, drainage issues and thickness and cracking issues.
We’ll cover the major differences between applications on concrete vs. wood backing. You will learn how to inspect stucco and to quickly determine thickness, analyze cracking and how to determine whether or not the stucco is properly installed to allow drainage. You’ll learn why tens of thousands of homes have concealed damage due to improperly installed stucco and where to look during a home inspection to find this damage.
Mark Cramer, ACI is home inspection veteran and a FL licensed contractor who has 25 years of experience performing home inspections, construction progress inspections, commercial building inspections, and insurance inspections. He also works as a litigation consultant and expert witness in matters relating to construction defects and home inspection. He’s performed more than one hundred forensic inspections of stucco failures.
Mark has more than five thousand hours of experience training home inspectors in classroom and seminar settings. A long time ASHI member, he was one of the founding members of the Suncoast Chapter of ASHI. He’s held numerous local and National positions within ASHI, serving as chair of several national committees and as National President of ASHI in the year 2000.
HVAC “Working or Working Properly”
This course is a presentation into the Laws of the Thermodynamics of Heat, which are associated in the design, and engineering of heating and air conditioning equipment. A well-founded understanding of such fundamentals is critical for valid functioning assessment of air conditioning and heating equipment during home inspections. Home inspectors will also be provided with minimal time, uncomplicated procedural techniques, of evaluating HVAC equipment performance, so as to increase confidence when professional judgements are made as to whether HVAC systems are “just working or working properly”.
Cecil Johnson is recognized worldwide as an author, instructor, and service technician in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC-R) industry. Cecil has a Masters Degree in Education from Penn State University and has been the HVAC-R instructor for the last 32 years at the Dauphin County Technical School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was influential in developing the HVAC-R course curriculum for a diploma, certificate, and Associates Degree at the Harrisburg Community College, where he has served as an adjunct professor since 1985. He was a primary instructor in the development of the initial pilot classes conducted by PSFEI for GSA Region 4 in 2004. Cecil is also the author of several books and videos geared toward the practical application and understanding of HVAC-R theory, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Cecil was also the script writer and technical advisor for the 1999 Delmar Publisher and Bergwall Productions, HVAC-R Service Calls, a 12-set video series. Carrier Corporation and many local contractors throughout Pennsylvania have utilized his specialized training and HVAC-R course development.

Secondly I will talk about how to grow your home inspection business through marketing realtors. I will expand on this including but not limited to teaching or sponsoring real estate CE, training at real estate sales meetings, lunch and learns, and helping with realtor events and charities. Last I will talk about a new way to market your home inspection business.
